Testing Services

Rhyz Analytical Labs, an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited lab, utilizes a wide variety of analytical instrumentation and in-house expertise to develop robust and accurate methods that address the complexities found in the challenging product matrices of foods, dietary supplements, and cosmetic products. We offer shelf life (real time & accelerated), preservative efficacy and microbiological (rapid & traditional) testing along with method development and validation services.

Our instrumentation includes Biolumix rapid micro, UV/Vis, High Performance and Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC, UPLC), Ultra Pressure Convergence Chromatography (UPC2), Gas Chromatography (GC), Head Space Analyzer, Specialized Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS) and High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry by Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (GC and LC qTOF). Additionally, we utilize an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) to test for trace metals and minerals as well as our extensive Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) library for identity testing.

General Chemistry

We offer testing on a wide variety of compounds using many different types of testing. From UV/Vis to FTIR and more, Rhyz Analytical Labs can handle all your general chemistry needs.

Liquid Chromatography

Liquid chromatography is a technique in analytical chemistry used to separate, identify, and quantify each component in a mixture. This allows verification of potency claims, detection of contaminants, and provides a chromatographic fingerprint that can be used for identity. There are many compendial methods, AOAC, USP, etc. that we have implemented and verified. Additionally, we have over 20 years of experience in analyzing botanicals, phytochemicals and nutritional ingredients utilizing methods we have developed in house.

Convergence Chromatography

Convergence Chromatography uses compressed CO2 as the primary mobile phase to leverage the selectivity of normal phase liquid chromatography with the benefits of reverse phase chromatography. This technique allows us to analyze compounds that normally require two different instruments to be analyzed in the same sample prep. Combining this with the use of a mass selective detector make difficult samples easier and more accurate to analyze.

Gas Chromatography

Much like Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography is used to separate, identify, and quantify each component in a complex mixture. Samples are introduced to the instrument by injection or using a headspace analyzer. Separated compounds are detected utilizing a variety of detectors from Flame Ionization to Mass Spectrometry. This technique can be used to examine omega 3 oils, essential oils, residual solvents and more.

Mass Spectrometry

Mass Spectrometry provides sensitivity, specificity and selectivity when analyzing complex mixtures. We utilize a variety of Mass Spec detectors in our Chromatography and analytical testing. Whether it be single stage (QDA, MS) or multiple stage (MS/MS) we have developed a wide variety of methods to analyze an extensive range of compounds. In addition, we have the capability to do high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS). This technique allows us to generate accurate mass information allowing for identification of unknown compounds, positive identification of contaminants and analytes of interest with total assurance.

Inorganic Testing

For analysis of heavy metals and minerals, we utilize an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry system (ICP-MS). The instrument converts the atoms of the elements in the sample to ions by high temperature where they are then separated by their mass and detected by the mass spectrometer. This process is highly sensitive, allowing for analysis down to concentrations in the parts-per-trillion for some ions. This is the industry standard for analyzing trace metals and minerals.

Microbiology Testing

Regardless of the stage of your ingredient or product, understanding the impact of micro-organisms on your product is vital. Most micro-organisms are harmless but there are some that can damage human health and negatively impact product quality. We offer rapid microbiological testing (Biolumix) as well as Petrifilm and traditional microbiological testing. We utilize USP 2020/2021, USP 61/62, USP 51 and AOAC compendial methods.
